Are you sticking with something or someone that no longer works for you?

Are you sticking with something or someone that no longer works for you?

Are you in a job or relationship that stresses you, drains you or leaves you feeling flat? Maybe you work for a company whose values clash with your own or maybe there’s no passion (or love) left in your relationship. Maybe you’re sticking with or investing your energy in something else that’s past its sell-by date.

Do you keep thinking, hoping or dreaming that something will change? But what will need to happen for that to occur and how long are you prepared to put your life on hold? Maybe you’ve decided that the situation that you’re in isn’t that dreadful and others have it a lot worse, but is that a good enough reason to remain in limbo?
Moving on from a relationship or leaving a job where you might have some great mates can be difficult, but neither is impossible. Few things are, but it is common to delay taking a decision which will shake your world up a bit. After all, you don’t want to regret your choice or wish you’d stay put. But in truth, how likely is it that you’ll want to go back to this?
It’s easy to make lots of excuses for putting off the change until you are ready. “I can’t leave before Christmas/while they’re short of staff." “I don’t have time/can’t afford to look for a new place to live right now”, “My family will be so upset with me.” Need I go on or are you getting the idea?
Sometimes it takes something dreadful happening or a health scare to spur us on to take stock and take action and this is a real shame. So many people stay stuck and unhappy for years before they eventually do something to change something. Even more sad, is that some people never get the courage to take a leap of faith and go for it.
If you’re not satisfied with something in your life, you owe it to yourself to consider your options and take steps towards a more positive situation. There may be some things that you can’t change, but many more things that you can.
