As a clinical hypnotherapist the start of the year is a very busy time. Many people choose to make changes on 1st January each year. Another important date in January is World Hypnotism Day on 4th of the month. World Hypnotism Day helps to draw attention to the many benefits of hypnotherapy and to banish the myths and mistaken beliefs that have abounded in the past. Hypnotherapy can help with habit change and unwanted behaviour patterns as well as many other concerns including anxiety, insomnia, phobias and trauma.
The state of hypnosis is very relaxing and I teach all my clients easy techniques for self-hypnosis. It is therefore very appealing to men and women who want to be in charge of their own state. Erroneous ideas of what hypnosis is (often formed by people as a consequence of stage and TV shows) are now being re-evaluated. The public can recognise now the difference between hypnotists who entertain and therapists who empower their clients to make powerful and important changes.
I’m pleased that Hypnotherapy (therapy using hypnosis) is now a mainstream therapy. It is increasingly popular with people who want to experience change quickly. It can also be a cost-effective option as fewer sessions are needed than longer term counselling or psychotherapy options. Most hypnotherapy is accessed through private practice so clients keen to change how they feel or behave don’t have to wait to see a therapist and can select the therapist of their choice.
As a career, hypnotherapy is a wonderful option for those who want to help others and to have a flexible working life. It is a very rewarding vocation which many people choose to train in as a second career or prior to (or after) retirement. Many of the students at my training school are people ‘of a certain age’ and their life experience is often extremely valuable during their training and in their new role on graduation.
